Scotland was recently voted the most beautiful country in the world. With stunning lochs, moonscape rock features, and stretches of golden beaches where it's a rarity to see more than 2 dog walkers, it's no surprise that Scotland's beauty has been (finally...) papped and realised by travel writers. Whilst the people of Scotland remain modestly smug in the glory of their surroundings, I'd like to urge you to go, visit Scotland. Visit in the summer and dip your toes in the pristine turquoise sea, when the seals are loafing on the rocks. Visit in the autumn when the highland cows lay among the faded purple heather. Choose to visit in Winter, and enjoy traditional music in cosy pubs with a dram of whisky. It doesn't matter when you go, the beauty of the country will welcome you in any season.
In August, we packed up a friend's Volvo and headed up from Edinburgh, through Skye, and enjoyed wild camping, bothy hopping, and midge dodging on the isles of Harris and Lewis. Here's a few minutes of the good times :)
